Founded in 1731 at Scala, Italy, the Order of the Most Holy Redeemer (or the "Redemptoristines") were first introduced to Australia by Bishop John Toohey in 1965 in the Diocese of Maitland.
The Redemptoristines live lives of self-surrender to the will of God. They strive to live out of the limelight, in faith, with God alone, and with each other - a life of prayer, labour, poverty, obedience, silence and praise of God.
"The cloistered, contemplative life places you as living, vital members in the heart of the mystical body of the Lord... " Pope Benedict, June 2010.
