Catholic Diocese to pray for hope, peace and end to violence to mark 10th anniversary of 2005 Bali bombings

In a service of remembrance and hope at the Sacred Heart Cathedral this Wednesday 30 September at 7pm, the community is invited to join Bishop Bill Wright to pray for those of families affected by the bombing, for world peace, and for an end to violence.

Dean of Sacred Heart Cathedral, Rev Andrew Doohan, is inviting members of the community to gather to mark the anniversary.

"While there is always an element of remembrance, and a need not to forget, I hope people will come together to pray for peace and to encourage each other to be people of hope, in spite of all the conflict we see in various parts of the world," said Father Doohan.

The bombing of the tourist enclave had a significant impact on the Newcastle and Catholic communities because a group of local families, some with links to St Francis Xavier's College, Hamilton, and the Church were dining at the restaurant where the bombings occurred.

Tragically, three Novocastrians were killed, and many sustained serious injuries. While most of the survivors have recovered physically, the legacy of the incident remains.
