Truth, Justice and Healing Council CEO to hold information sessions in diocese
On Wednesday 25th February, CEO of the Truth, Justice and Healing Council – Francis Sullivan will hold two information sessions for people of the diocese and local community to discuss issues related to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
With two open information sessions planned, Bishop Bill Wright says this is an important opportunity not only for those involved with the diocese, but also the local community to hear from the church’s primary voice in responding to the Royal Commission:
“The Truth, Justice and Healing Council plays a key role for us as a diocese and the wider church as we progress through the Royal Commission. The opportunity to have Francis come and speak locally is something which I know many people will value.
“As a diocese we have already experienced the Special Commission of Inquiry, and with private hearings of the Royal Commission beginning locally at the end of February, this is an ideal time for people to be able to hear Francis’ perspective, while also having the opportunity to ask any questions they may have,” Bishop Bill said.
CEO of the church’s Truth, Justice and Healing Council – Francis Sullivan said he is looking forward to the visit.
“It is vitally important everyone understands how the Church is approaching the Royal Commission; with humility and full transparency.
It is also important both the Catholic and broader community is aware of the work we are doing to ensure children are safe within out institutions and survivors of abuse are treated with compassion and justice.”
Information sessions will run for just over an hour, with the first beginning from 10am which media are invited to attend. Each session will offer a mix of information presentations and open discussion, with both Francis Sullivan and Bishop Bill Wright in attendance.
